What is Movement Therapy?
One of the biggest goals of SAL is to
spread the love of dance that Ari had
with other young children dealing with
cancer and other health issues who
are in the hospital. Her love of dance, and
the dance therapy program at St. Louis Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital, helped to bring joy to Ari.
As Spread Ari's Light has grown, so has our creative therapies. Movement therapy is an umbrella term for a handful of different therapies working on similar skill areas.

Types of Movement Therapies

The American Dance Therapy Association defines dance/movement therapy as the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration of the individual
(ADTA 2020).

Children's hospitals around the country are using therapeutic yoga as part of their treatment programs. In addition to the child's medical treatments, therapeutic yoga may decrease pain relief, provide relaxation, increase flexibility, improve strength and endurance and decrease fall risk and fatigue.
Types of Movement Therapies
The Spread Ari's Light Foundation funds a total of 64 hours per week of therapy for children with cancer.
