As a yogi and retired special education teacher of 30 years Lisa combined her two loves and became a registered yoga teacher specializing in children’s and accessible yoga. She currently teaches accessible vinyasa classes, chair yoga, accessible yoga to the patients and their families at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Camp Independence, and her local library. She provides her clients with a mind and body connection that aids in self-regulation and gives them a sense of control. The opportunity provided by the SAL Foundation to increase yoga services at St. Louis Children’s Hospital is a gift which will allow the yoga instructors to share yoga and its benefits with more children. This incredible support from the SAL Foundation is greatly appreciated to help spread the benefits of yoga.

Shawn Chereskin,
E-RYT-200, E-RYT-500
she/her/hers
Shawn teaches from the heart and is in service to all who come to the mat seeking a greater understanding of Self. Her classes are trauma-informed and help to gently guide students into the practice of self inquiry through the subtle and physical bodies, focusing on presence and sensation. Shawn first came to yoga in 1993 for the physical practice and soon came to love and know the other aspects that yoga provided not only the body, but the mind and spirit.
In 2015, after 22 years of practicing, Shawn began the journey of becoming a teacher of yoga at the Circle Yoga Shala in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas. In addition she holds certifications in Trauma-Informed teaching, Prison Yoga Project, Race and Equity in Yoga, Breath and Meditation and Yoga Nidra. She has a passion for sharing this practice in unconventional ways, teaching to those who may not come across yoga on their own including people who are incarcerated, the Special School District and most recently to children and their families at St. Louis Children's Hospital. Shawn's yoga sessions help to gently guide and support patients using relaxation, breathwork, guided imagery and gentle movement. She takes great pride in her ability to connect and hold space for what is likely the most challenging time in their lives. Shawn finds great joy in helping others realize their own humanity, power, resilience, beauty and ultimately a greater sense of peace, grounding, agency and liberation through the practice of yoga. She sees firsthand how this practice can help to ease a child's time in the hospital. She has deep gratitude to SAL for offering up the opportunity to share the benefits of yoga to more patients at SLCH.
